Workshop – Climate Change, Digital Tools and Schools

Educational gaming, teaching and climate change literacy

A Workshop on Friday October 14th 2016 at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, focusing on educational video games and teachers’ needs. The workshop builds on research outcomes of the Future Delta 2.0 videogame project, supported by Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Morning Agenda:

Participants learned specific research findings on what works and what doesn’t in climate change education with place-based experiential games, and heard from experts on ways to integrate gaming into education practice and youth engagement. The session included brief presentations by new and existing partners of the Future Delta 2.0 videogame project and panel discussion.

Afternoon Agenda:

An innovation work-session enabled participants to explore new and effective ways of engaging youth on relevant climate change issues using visual learning tools, such as place-based videogames, augmented reality, apps, visualizations, and mapping. Participants reviewed and conceptualized needed instructional resources and guide for using games, aimed at teachers and youth groups.
